Anyone experimented with changing from a 34t Ultegra inner front ring (110mm) to a 33t?

It is worth 3% in terms of increased cadence (similar to moving from rear 28 to 29).

Where do you get one from?
Any issues?

you can get them from dotbike:

I bought one to replace my 36t for the Bealach Beag sportive in Scotland and it was worth it - especially when I was passing all walking up the pass, however I can't believe it's great noticeable difference from a 34t, maybe worth it for a real long climb where you are close to your limit throughout.

Issues? maybe issues with chain length when going small/small, but I never go near there. Maybe a little slower changing from 33t to 50t chainring beacause of the bigger gap. I used a 48t with it and it seemed a great match with quick changes, as with 50t/36t. But with a 48t I think its preferable to have a 11t on the small end of the cassette which is still a bigger gear than a 50t/12t and also meant less changing between chainrings for me. If using a 48t you need to lower the front deraileaur a little which can be a faff.

I do it every year for my trip to Bike Tour of Colorado. 33-27. Works for me. Every little bit helps.

i am struggling with a 34/27 up some of the steep hills in warwickshire (edge hill ).rather than change to a triple, what would a 33/28 combo be like compared to the triple.do you think that there would be to big of a gap in the ratios ?
    thanks

    Mad,
How is this setup working for you? Any issues. I am considering this exact set up for the Marmotte also. I had a tripple last year and am a little worried that I am a little overgeared with a 34-27 (hence considering 33-38 ).

works fine. Only done a few rides on it so far and I've not done the Marmotte before so I'm not 100% sure how it'll fare on the day but I got up HardKnott on it the other day so it's clearly low enough to get up pretty much anything. The Marmotte is quite different though - long climbs between 8 and 11% ish so I want to be able to sit and spin all the way up basically, and my guess is it'll be fine

Works with a standard Ultegra 10spd rear mech and I'm running a Campag CT mech up front. Chainset is 33/48 and I'll probably keep that for the big ride. I've thought about running a 50t but I'll stick with what I'm used to I think.
