Got an email with some news that brings another bike into play.
but which to choose.

Giant Trance X5 http://www.giant-bicycles.com/EN-GB/bik ... 434/32482/

OR

Specialized FSR XC Expert '09 http://www.edinburghbicycle.com/ebwPNLq ... uctID=9918

They look pretty similar to me.....prefer the look of the spesh....
Email I got could save me £200 from the spesh if indeed patience is a virtue.

What say you bike heads?

I went for the fsr xc expert as I got £150 off. Plus it felt better, better brakes, wheels and tyres, rear mech and shockplus it's a specialized in lovely red and white. Felt lighter too.
I was told that the Large one I ordered was the last one specialized had, but that might have been bull.
I also thought the FSR had more tyre clearance out the back.
Only plus for the giant is that it's good to upgrade, but as mine's cyclescheme, the upgrade will be selling next year and going all Stumpy.

I was looking at a genesis core but after lost forms, lost orders etc I think I made the right choice.

Problem is there's too many bikes out there and not enough money or time to ride them all.

the fsr is upgradable, but the only reason the man in the shop could come up with the x5 is that the frames the same as the x1 that's just won bike of the year.

Could you get £200 off the pro? I couldn't get anything, can't beleive how light the thing was with rebas up front.

Get the giant, its upgradable and the maestro suspension works the best!
The rear shock on the spesh is a bit of a let down to be honest where as the giant air shock pulls well above its weight......

Overall if you were to spend say £200 upgrade then the giant would blow the spesh out of the water!

    up to you though....

at £1000 each you'd need more than £200 to get better as you could spend £200 on the FSR, nothing wrong with the FSR can, it's a different one to the Comp.

But again horses for courses, it's all down to personal taste.

We could just tell you to buy a boardman, or like last month a zesty, or the month before a meta, or the month before etc etc etc.

Just buy the bike that you feel comfortable on and like.

the x1 that won bike of the year was the giant anthem x1 iirc (so might not be too clued up!)

got a trance x0 (2008) and can't fault it, very happy. unfortunatly i've not tried the x5 or the specialized so can't comment on those models.
read the reviews, but more importantly test ride each then you can be confident in your decision. happy hunting :D

thanks people for taking time out ya day to make some comments, muchly appreciated.

I've decided to go for the Giant X 5, throw it about for a good few summer/autum and if I dare it winter months.

The upgradable potential is what has put my mind this way.. pehaps I can ask my mammy for a fox rp23 for Christmas (joke).

    Thanks again.

Going to the LBS this afternoon to get the wheels rollin.

I ride a Trance, the maestro system is plush smooth and easier on bearings than the fsr, watching people I ride with the trance dosent bob as much as the fsr platform. Now that could be more to do with the riders pedal technique,im just stating what I see.

But Id go for the Giant.
