Morning All

Hope everyone is cool and groovy :)

Today was my last day at work before heading of to stay in a little cottage near Betws y Coed for 7 days. This is a good thing. As I cycled home however I noticed that my BB is creaking like a thing that creaks a lot in a most unhelpful manner. Im reasonably sure its the BB as it only creaks when I'm pedalling.

My plan for now is to strip the crank & BB out, clean, re-grease, whisper sweet nothings to then rebuild. If this doesnt solve the problem and the bearing is fubar'd does anyone know what bearings you would use in the cup so I can try and find some replacements ths afternoon. My lbs will charge the earth for a new bottom bracket and dont do individual cups.

take the bearing cartridge out....take it to your friendly local neighbourhood bearing services place...ask them for new ones..

    job done.

Not easily - you are meant to replace the whole cup. Some people have had them out, or managed to get to the bearings and grease them.

They dont look the easiest of things to prise out for sure. When I rotate the bearing in the cup I can feel it grinding slightly, I have cleaned and re greased the bearing but it still does this.

If I got a grease gun a squirted a load into the gap between the cup and bearing would that help to ease its pain for a short term fix? It still rides so would I get away with a few days riding?

replacing them would be ideal were it not for the outrageous price & the fact were leaving tomorrow morning to go on holiday.

I've tried to contact a couple of shops around the area were going to but have had no joy hence trying to find out if it will last a couple of days riding with the help of a large ammount of grease.

It is better value to buy a whole Deore chainset for 50 quid and use the BB, then sell off the cranks!

    Or try one of these:
