If someone lays a trail in a previously untouched piece of woodland how does that someone fair by riding it? Who owns the forests that we ride in? I know the F.C. maintain them but surely if a bike sticks a trail in then surely thats ok?

    Far from it.

Many forests, as you say are owned by the FC and as such they have the right to close, dismantle and block trails, both legal and not.

It's better to work with people like the FC than against them even though they can act like nazis.

the land owner owns the land and they can prosecute anyone that builds on damages etc the land.

All land in the UK is owned.

[pedanticmode] Actually they can't prosecute you, they can only sue, subtle but important difference [/pedanticmode]

It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

    I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
    Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result
