Sorry if this been asked before but couldnt find any simular threads.
I currently have rockhopper bike and soon will get disc breaks, but as i currently using V breaks does this mean i need new wheels..
heres my bike:

i pretty sure that all i need is the disc breaks and can fit them straight onto bike as it seems disc ready but just wanted to check before i paid for the new breaks.
cheers/.

well if the front wheel looks like that one you need it rebuilding with new spokes in a 3 cross pattern.
a no cross patern and disc brakes is not good."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

If it is exactly as per that link, then it has:
Front Hub:Specialized Hi Lo disc 28 hole hub with CNC flanges and disc mount. Polished raced and quick release
Rear Hub:Specialized Hi Lo disc cassette 32 hole hub with CNC flanges and disc mount. Polished races and a alloy quick release.
If so, then they would appear to be disc hubs.0 -
the front and rear both have 6 holes in the middle of the wheel, and the fork has 2 holes along with the rear of frame having 2 holes also, thus i belive they disc ready.
hopefully somone can confirm this 100%London2Brighton Challange 100k!

Fork frame and hubs sound okay, but note carefully Nicklouse's comment about radially spoked wheels0

The Rockhopper 2008 was sold as disc ready - I nearly bought one !
The 6 holes on the hub take the disc bolts and the frame and forks are ready for the disc calipers.
Not sure if you have chosen your brakes - if I had enough wife credits I would be upgrading my Giant MPH root hydraulics to a set of these:

Not sure they come with the discs ? if not you will need a pair of these:

Good luck with your upgrade !
EDIT: just seen nicklouse comment. I can;t believe Specialised would have sold the bike with as disc ready with a disc hub but you needed to get the front wheel re-built to allow you to use a disc ! However, Nicklouse does know his stuff so best to check.0 -
If you look at the Specialized website, all the disc brake models have 3X front wheels:

Nick is right, you will need a new front wheel, or a rebuild.0
