Shop error - compensation

I ordered a pair of charge sponge grips in white from sunsetmtb.co.uk, however when they turn up in the post they happened to be the grey model. I've emailed them explaining this and they've agreed to replace them.
My question is, is it fair to ask for them to cover postage or some sort of compensation?
What's the best way of doing this?

Conor

only seems reasonable, it was thier co*k up at the end of the day, they should pay for the postage, not that it will be much anyway, but every little counts!

I am pretty sure they are obliged to cover postage costs. I think you can inist they arrange for someone to pick up the goods too.

Wait till you get the right ones then post the wrongs one back with insufficient postage on the packet or none atall then they'll have to pay the post plus a collection fee.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

When that happened to me (baby pink grips arrived instead of fluro pink ones) they sent me the replacements for free and didn't even want the last ones back...
  • they will refund the postage.
i wouldnt expect anything else. Mistakes happen.

same happened with a mate who got the wrong size seat collar from on-one. They sent him a new one and when he oferred to send the original one back they said "meh... nevermind"

For such a small item, I expect they'll just send you the new one and leave you with both. However, if they do want you to send the old ones back, that's their problem and their cost, assuming it was clearly their cockup not you changing your mind of course  .

Beer in moderation ... is a waste of beer

If riding an XC race bike is like touching the trail,
then riding a rigid singlespeed is like licking it

Agree with above posts. The distance selling regulations say that it is the shops responsibility to pay for return postage. You do not even have to trouble yourself posting it. You are within your rights to tell the shop to come and get the grips if they want them back. But, if you do this, don't expect any decent service from them in the future!

Plus of course it's generally easier to post something yourself than it is to deal with someone else's courier.

yep, phone them up and get them to agree to refund your postage costs.

happened to me twice, first was when i ordered a pair of panaracer fire xc tyres which were badly misrepresented on the website (stated an rrp of £30 ish, weights of the lighter "proper" ones, so i assumed they'd be the "proper" ones, what turned up was the OEM completely diff ones). That took a bit of arguing but they eventually agreed.

Second time was ordering a helmet in the sale, they stated it was last years model (2008) but when it turned up it was a 2005 model. Didn't fancy a helmet that's been kicking around in the stock room for nearly 4 years so again the shop payed the return postage costs.
