Can Shimano HB-M495 Hubs be opened and fixed?

Hi all,
I picked up a Specialized a while back that needs some work doing to it.
It came with Alex Rims DP20 Disc wheels, and the following problem.
The rear hub is a Shimano HB-M495, and appears to be shot.
The wheel wobbles from side to side and makes a dull squeaking sound whilst riding.
I was lead to believe by the seller that this can easily fixed by tightening it!
So can it be fixed easily?
Or should i just bite my lip and buy a new wheel?

All shimano hubs can be dis-assembled for maintenace IIRC. Take the seals off the spindle and you should see some flats for the locknut and cones.I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0

Get some new bearings too....should cost about a quid for a pack..can't remember the size for the 495..I have these on an 06 hardrock...and have had to do the same thing...
but as redvee says...yes very easy to maintain...as long as the bearings don't end up under the fridge

Park tools no doubt also have a servicing page.
cone spanners and maybe some grease.
Or take it to a bike shop, they'll charge a tenner or so.0 -
and dont do what i did with mine and forget to insert all 9 balls, no wonder it wobbled lol!0

Thanks for the input guys.
Its actually the 'FH-M495' which is the rear wheel, not the front, my mistake.
So will 15mm & 17mm cone spanners fit this hub ok?
Will i need to remove the gear cassette to do the job right?

Ended up taking it to the local bike shop today.
£12 for 1 new cone and all new bearings plus labour.
Now all i need is a new rear mech
