Mmm, thanks mate, looking at that list of parts that i will need and looking at the bare frame, this could be expensive!!

Did you ever find the part?

Beginning to think I may have trashed the BB by overtightening (read: making the foolish mistake of turning the BB cup the wrong way on the drive side!). Seized solid now.

If it comes to it I was thinking I could replace the BB assembley as it's just the black piece joining to the bottom pivot and wish bone. Handy instead of just trashing the frame, but then getting the part may involve getting a frame anyway.

As mine is a Halfords model I can pretty much rule them out. They'd take it away and 3 years later come back and tell me they can't get the part.

I have an un-used I-Drive BB shell and a bunch of other bits.

I had an I-Drive in 09 and needed to replace a bolt (custom bit that I couldnt replace with standard stuff).... and was forced to buy the entire I-Drive part kit which cost me £160 :(

I sold the bike lat year and still have all the parts.

I'll dig em out and take some photos, if anyone is interested in them feel free to make me an offer.

    James.

    EDIT:

The BB shell (black) is totally un-used; the other parts have been used (and some show the signs) but would all be good for spares (the bearings are like new).

Forgot to mention; the bike I had was an 09 I-Drive 5 XCR.

Oh, would that BB part need "facing" or "chasing" or whatever? I know that's the done thing on normal frames (though I'm never too sure it's really required these days). I don't really understand what it involves anyway. Seems to have the threads for the BB cups so surely it's good to go?

It's good to go as far as I know; it certainly won't need chasing

Facing just shaves a little material off of the edge to make sure the cups sit against it flush but some people say it's not needed; other says it's esential.

Would be up to you but personally I wouldnt bother.

If the bike shop ordered the bits and fitted them I'm pretty sure they would just switch em over as is.

    Agree doubt they'd face them.

James, I meant to reply earlier but one thing and another plus the forum being down for a while, I didn't get round to it. Currently just living with the existing BB cups practically welded on to the BB link. Rideable but bearings are grinding a little.

Anyway, chances are I may get a new bike and cannibalise the GT, but if dogscorcher doesn't want the BB link I may still take it off your hands, though not sure if it's much use as I doubt I can sell the frame as it's probably not worth much.

Out of interest, where did you get the parts anyway?

Looks like I need the whole lot now as the bearings and/or pivots may be shot. Loads of play in the BB link pivot point and no matter how much I strip, grease and rebuild I can't get rid of it.

Though the bearings don't look worn and pivots look okay.

Thing is though I've just realised there are no Split Bearing Seats on the inside of the bearing cartridges. The manual says there should be and I can see from the above photo there appears to be. There are seats on the outside which are fine. But the bearings seem to fit snugly into the pivot bearing "seat" itself and I'm almost certain it never had Split Bearing Seats fitted.

Could be that's where the play is coming from but why now if they've never been there anyway?

halfords get them straight from merida uk. (who make the gt frames) so it shouldn't be any problem and most likely quicker than an IBD as they get them from hotwheels uk , who get them from merida uk who get them from the factory.

Contacted Meridia UK but turns out that since the Halfords deal ceased they are no longer doing the stuff they did for Halfords. They have some stock of frames left and parts for other models, but nothing left for the ID5 from Halfords. All has to be ordered from Halfords only anyway.

Halfords may be the only option, and I'm betting for certain that they won't stock the parts, will say they'll order them and then 3 months later they'll come back saying they can't get them.

(pessimist that I am about Halfords :D)

I'm thinking now the whole thing is not worth the hassle. I've seen whole GT ID5 XCR bikes going for £200 on ebay nearly new. Not that I'd buy a replacement GT, but just seems it's not worth spending loads to fix up what I've got.

Will see again if Skonk has his kit, but some of the bearing stuff is worn and would like new. Could get new bearings but 4x ACB bearings is £40 for a start and need other bits so it's stacking up.

Time to look at new bikes. Maybe I'll go back to my plan to get a new bike and use the GT for parts to build a HT.
