Look Keo Cleats

Anyone else notice how often they need replacement Look Cleats? I seem to need new Keo's (I use the black ones) every couple of months - I think three months is as good as I've ever managed without snapping at least one front tip.

The left one takes most of the abuse from traffic light stops etc, but I've had to change a fair few right-sided ones too.

With the price of replacement cleats now up to £18 (thanks Gordon Brown) I was strongly considering buying some Look Quartz MTB pedals to use with some ols Specialized MTB Sport shoes, then probably follow that up with some Sidi's I spotted in my LBS.

Anyone else had this with the Keo's? And does anyone else recommend the Quartz pedals for road use? I used to use Shimano M520's (and my new bike has lots of Campag - so no chance of going back to SPD's)

Just wondered if I would be sacrificing much in terms of performance when the upside would be that the cleats would last far longer. Any thoughts?

Not bad for my first post :P

For commuting, I would go for MTB-type pedals everytime. The reason you are snapping the cleat is because road shoes and pedals aren't really designed for stop-start foot down cycling. For that you need some MTB pedals and shoes.

I ride 6 days a week and don't think they need replacing that often, although I maybe don't put my feet down as often as some. They seem to last about a year, although I do have a couple of pairs of shoes that rotate in summer.

I'm glad i'm not the only one to snap the tip off one of mine, and that was after only 3 rides. Albeit they were second hand cleats which had been used for about 6 months, but I was still pretty annoyed. I've got a new set now so will give feedback on how long they last, I try to spend as little time as possible walking on them though.

    Hi,

When buying my latest road bike I got the pedals to suit my Sidi's, which I am very happy with.
The Sidi's are the mountain bike version that look like tourers and work very well. Years of use and no problems.

    My gear?

Shimano A520 pedals & Centaur groupset!

Herasay, I dare say but they all work very well together :P
None of the above should be taken seriously, and certainly not personally.

I think the Look Quartz look so "twee" and I could even get them in black :D

Anyone had any experience of them, would they like to share it?
