campag cassette removal?

Today i removed my back wheel to clean the cassette and noticed that it could easily be removed by hand.
The centre jagged nut holding the cassette in place (techinal i know) is only done up hand tight?
When the wheel is back in position on the frame there is no way the nut can untighten again.
Is this normal or am i missing a part?
