Calling all Genesis Core owners: What size for a 6-1" r

Hi,

I've been thinking about buying a Genesis Core for a while (Actually since last year). Tested a 19" out today which felt fine and didn't feel noticeably cramped, although the guy in the shop seemed to think I would be better off with the larger 21" model. I've never really thought thought of myself riding a 21" bike as this sounds quite large to me (Although I know this depends on the bike).

Problem is I don't have a 21" model near me to test.

So my question is are there any 6-1" riders out there with a 32" inseam that have a Genesis Core and which size did you go for?

Thank you in advance.

Its a bummer you cant get to test one.

Im gonna be buying the core20 however I get it discounted through work online so need to test one for size. At the moment im on a 20" and im 5ft11" but it feels a bit big and I have a short reach for my height.

Im torn between the 17.5" & the 19", I rang my local Evans who had none instock so I asked them if they could order them for me to try but they werent to keen, preffering to order only 1 size in. They said I could go in and try another make for size to get an idea however I thought different manufacturers had different sizings so thought this was a bad idea.

Rang their helpline for advice and they edged me towards the 17.5" as they said they come up big.

The most common advice I see on here is you must try before you buy, so I would stick to that regardless. I know a guy on here recently bought a core20, he said he was 5ft10" and he went for the 17.5"

    Yep, got a Core 20 in 17.5" and I'm 5'10".

Different bike manufacturers do come up different in their sizing but you have to also think that just because you're x height doesn't mean your arms, torso and legs are the same as someone else the same height.

It's a very individual thing and you really need to try, I guess Evans relunctance is due to the fact that they will have to build the bike when they get it in or they may have little room other than shop floor to store bikes.

However, I had great service from them and reckon you should push for both sizes or basically tell them they've lost a sale!

    Hi,

Ive not got a Genesis Core, but I'm 6'1" with a 33" inside leg and I've got a medium (18") Boardman Sport. In Halfords they advised I should get a 20", but the top tube was a bit too close to my sac magique, and I felt a bit too stretched out. On the 18" the seat is up pretty high, but I find it more manoverable and chuckable.

Obviously all makes have different sizing and geometry, so you do really need to get on a bike and try it. Its advised that if you are between sizes, you should go for the smaller of the two.

  • Thanks a million for this post guys!
I'm buying my Core 20 tomorrow (yayy!!) and still don't know which size is *right* for me. Sat on a 19" Core 10 which the guy said was right for me, but there was only an inch or so above my tender bits and it felt a little stretched.. Problem is I've not been riding for some time so don't have the familiarity I used to have. :(

Anyway, based on this I've decided to try out a 17.5" tomorrow so that I can see for sure which feels better. :) FYI - I'm 5'10"
  • I've got a Genesis core 10 (2008 version) in a 19 inch size. I'm 6'2 and it feels fine to me so you should be okay.

Although I think it partially comes down to personal preference, if you like the feel of a slightly smaller frame (which I do) then you should go for the smaller frame. The same goes for larger frames.
