Need some advice. Not done much biking over the past few years but have recently got back into it. However due to having a problem with my lower back I need to either use padded shorts or a softer saddle. Which is best?

padded shorts or padded undershorts definately, and never ever wear anything underneather, saddles are only comfy for so long then they need the help of decent padded shorts be thay baggy or lycra. your bum will thank you for them.
    who cares?

my Son bought me a so called comfy saddle for Xmas... was far from comfy after a few miles or so..

I wear padded lycra shorts under my baggy shorts.....

I ain't brave enough to wear Lycra shorts in full public view     :? :(

Cheers for the info. Must admit I was leaning towards shorts rather than a saddle. It always best to ask though especially from ones with a bit more experience than me.

Saddles need to be supportive, not soft... If they're soft you just squish into them and you end up even more uncomfortable, and you might get chafing to boot. I don't like padded shorts but they're still the better option. Oh, have you considered a suspension post?

I bought the dhb padded shorts that are often recommended as good value for that price, can only agree after trying them for the first time last friday.

The difference it made to my sore cheeks was amazing.
