Hi,

getting around 25-30% sag on my Tora SL 09 100mm coil forks and decided because they feel very soft its about time I got the Xtra-firm spring to match my weight

So, is this the right part ?

Also, what grease should I use on the new spring - is standard cycle grease with teflon ok to use ? Something like this: http://www.bonthronebikes.co.uk/242-472565

25-30% is about normal, but is personal preference - I'd go for the firm, not extra firm.

    Thanks supersonic,

I weigh around 92kg  so going from the Sram webby spring rate chart that does put me on an x-Firm spring ? Would you still go to just a firm spring ?

63-72kg Red Spring Medium (standard) This is what I have got now
    72-82kg Blue Spring Firm
    > 82kg Black Spring X-Firm

    Bit confused now :?

If a normal spring is giving you 25-30% sag, I would think a frim would would yield 20-25%. Anything less is too low IMHO unless you want it to feel really stiff.

RS guidelines are just that. They don't know how much weight you have over the front ;-)

    Thanks Supersonic, that makes sense.

I'll go with the firm spring - this would be this part right ?

Don't buy from Bonthrones, they are not very good. Try CRC, Fisher's or TF Tuned.

I just put a Firm (BLUE) on my Pikes..... I weigh 95kg and glad i didn't got for the X-Firm...

Like supersonic says the weight is just a guide line, I was getting about 30% sag on the RED spring now I get 20-25%!

Also the bike feels so much better now as well, as i was going through all my travel to quickly and fork was not performing how it should!

I used Teflon Finish Line grease on the spring!

    Got mine form TFT.

i changed the spring in my Tora 289's it made quite a lot of difference, i wanted it even harder so i forced a longer spring off a pair of jump forks in, since i no longer have full travel i realise the longer spring was stupid and will return to the extra stiff spring and add a smaller rubber washer. i dont like any more than 15 mm sag on my forks, otherwise i just feel like its moving around to much when i dont want it to.
Dont look at it-ride it! they are tools not f*cking ornaments

Ordered a blue (firm) spring from TFTuned yesterday lunchtime, it was delivered this morning - 1st class friendly service !

Took me 10 minutes to fit - tried the bike for a quick testride once done round the block. Need to give it a proper ride out but first impressions are it feels a lot firmer :D

Thanks for the advice guys
