Hello, this is my first post, so please be patient with me...

I'm looking for a 2nd mountain bike and have been trolling the T'interweb, places like Pauls Cycles, Evans and Fleabay when I came across this website...

http://www.bikester.com/bicycles.html

on this site they have two hardtails on for £469.99

the first one is a Hawk 44 Blackline

http://www.bikester.com/bicycles/mou...500/11720.html

and the 2nd is a Longus LTD XT

http://www.bikester.com/bicycles/mou...500/15275.html

both bikes seem to be reasonably specced and for both, prices are inclusive of VAT and delivery (or at least seem to be) has anyone used this site, or have these bikes and can you tell me what they are like ?

I've googled both bikes but can't find any reviews, so I have no frame of reference, just wondering about the old saying if something sounds too good to be true...

Hmmmm, never heard of either make, but in that price range your within GT Avalanche range and knocking on the door of Giant XTC, I know which I'd go for.

Don't get me wrong, they could be perfectly good machines but check the hardtail reviews and I think you'll find some good deals on more well-known brands.

    Hey, welcome to the forum!

I wouldnt throw either of them bikes at a tramp.

I personally dont think either of them are very well spec'd at all, not considering what you can get for the same price.

For that money you can get alot more bike, have a look at GT avalanche's, CUBE's, Merlin Malt 1, boardman comp, genisis core 20, carerra fury.

Also if youve got a decathlon near you have a look at the rockrider http://www.bikemagic.com/news/article/mps/uan/6433

The bottom one of the two has rim brakes! I wouldnt be parting with that cash to get rim brakes. Plus most places now will chuck in free postage (or haggle with them over the phone) bike shops need your money right now so free postage is nothing if they get the sale.

What sort of riding do you want it for and what bike do you currently have?

I already own an XTC 4.5 which I love, but I'm looking for a 2nd bike, I'm just not sure what I want yet, so I'm kind of dotting around a few different sites trying to find something with a half decent spec, at a really affordable price... I think I just want to have my cake and eat it, and more than likely will struggle to find anything... :?

Well id check out the ones listed in this listing, there much better than the ones you were thinking abotu buying.

Plus if you find anymore you like stick them on here and we'll all give our ten pence worth!

    Good luck
  • Why not upgrade your giant?

You've already got a nice base for upgrading...

Change the forks for something a bit better than darts, lighter rims and better brakes?

otherwise you'll just end up with 2 low-mid rage bikes....

Picked up a Core 20 from Evans on price match for £550. If you can stretch to that much def worth considering.

Price match was aginst Square Wheels.

Old bikes and specs, but good value except the forks.
