Hello,
I've tried the search function and not much comes up.
I have £700 - £800 for a new hardtail and in looking at a Marin B17, anyone know any reasons why not or even better any other bikes that you can recomend for that price range as cycle world suggested this and i thought i better check.
Oh and i will actually be riding this on a mountain so it needs to be robust.
Thanks in advance

You could get a boardman, cube or focus for same price or cheaper and double the specs.
I got a full suss focus for 1000.00 with fox and xt equipe.
I will never buy named again, unless they are on sale, good value with the cube and focus.
And they are always rated.0 -
Focus Black Forest is a very good bike and it's within your budget.

It currently has 25% off at the moment too. Those Fox forks are what make it such an amazing deal.
I posted some pics in the "Your rides" section of the forum if you're interested.

The Boardman Comp is also worth looking at but it's only available from Halfords. It is a good spec bike for the money though.0 -
Thanks for the advice.
Im looking at the bikes you have suggested and i notice that they dont seem to look as robust as the B17 at the joints.
Isn't is wise to get the best frame i can afford and upgrade parts as they break? or.........0 -
It is, yes, but the other frames will be strong for their intended riding. 'Mountain' biking covers a wealth of terrain - will you be hitting big drops and jumps?0
-
No not straight away but i'd prefere top buy one bike that can handle it all, so that in the future i dont have to spent out big again.0

Looks ok, but has an apalling crank and Bb for that money, doesn't fit in with its hard image at all.
This strikes me as quite a bit better:

You see this is where i become royally unstuck, I don’t know all the proper jargon and I don’t know what is good gear and what isn’t! That’s why I thought "stick with a brand you've heard of" but alas no such luck it seems.
Ah damn it looks like I'll have to look into this a bit further, and try to find a dealer locally that isnt Cycle World.
By the way what is a Bb?
And thanks for the help!!0 -
Bottom Bracket - the bit the cranks bolt onto. The Core has a much stiffer, stronger and lighter set up. Better wheels it seems too. Fork a bit lighter.0

I'm in 2 minds about the genesis core 30 or the black forest. I'm going to have a think about it over the weekend, both look very good to me0 -
Nice one Supersonic.
Looks like I’m slipping into a more expensive bracket the more I read.
Rocky ridge
Orange crush
Specialized rockhopper pro (although that colour???? Yuk!)
For some reason I don’t feel quite right about buying a bike from a brand I haven’t heard of, Core. Is it me being ridiculous? Are these up there frame wise with the bigger brands? Or is this in fact a big brand and I have no idea?? Lol.0 -
Core is the model, the brand is Genesis: quite big!. They are getting great reviews and I particularly like the way they spec them.
The Rockhopper is a shorter travel, racier machine0 -
Aha i see, i couldn't have been more wrong then lol.
One thing i know for sure is that there is far to much choice!0
