Cranksets & Chain device questions

I'm currently planning my DMR Trailstar AM/FR build and I'm not quite sure what crankset and chain device set up I should go for.

I really want to go single 38T chainring up front with a bashguard and chain device, and 9spd at the back. I'm just not sure what style of chain device is most suitable, and which cranks woudl be best for under £75.

If I went for the Truvativ Hussefelt and Howizter BB, would it be possible just to remove the granny ring to leave the big ring and bash ring?

What kind of chain device would you reccomend for this type of system?

Cheers!

You could get the 24T/36T/bash that you linked to then remove the 24T chainring. No problems there. You'd need to get a chainguide that works with a 36T chainring and also fits your frame. Either BB mount or one of the ISCG fittings.

I like MRP chain guides. What about this one?

Or you could keep both chainrings (and the front mech) and get a lower dual roller guide. Like this. That would most likely be the cheaper option. That's what I did anyway.

Cool, yeah the MRP stuff looks pretty cool. I havent actually built the bike yet, so I don't currently have a front mech. Just read the BR review of teh Hussfelt Cranks and they pretty much said "only buy of they are the most you can afford", which basically means they are rrrrubish...

Back to the drawing board on cranks then...

Shimano Hone 'double and bash' were going for around £60 a while back. There may be some kicking about still.
