Alternatives to Michelin Pro3 Race

I’ve now had to replace two Pro3’s in as many rides, due to large splits to the rolling surface, most likely caused by a stray piece of flint or similar. One time I punctured, one time I only noticed the split once I was home.
£50 worth of tyres in under 200 miles is not helping my case with the banker, that this is a cheap hobby after the initial outlay!
I love the ride of the Pro3’s, but can anyone recommend a most robust tyre, without sacrificing weight & feel – or is there always going to a trade-off between durability and weight/ feel?
Or maybe I’ve just been unlucky, the set I had prior to this lasted over a year…
Thanks.

All i know is that I've had Conti GP4000s on my bike for the last few years - and had no problems with them at all. Highly rated.0

+1, however i would be tempted to return those PR3's that's rediculous i've only had 1 puncture from mine and that was caused by soft tyres and a pinch i think.........
Michellin Kryllion carbons seem to get rated as a tough tyre on here though :?winter beast: http://i497.photobucket.com/albums/rr34 ... uff016.jpg

The Conti 4000 S are supposed to be great tyres.
Also the Schwalbe Ultremo get good reviews0 -
Some great chat on tyres in the other thread on here labelled Michelin vs Conti's
EnjoyThe difference between ordinary and extraordinary.......is just that little extra0 -
I really like Schwalbe Ultremo's (used the standard version as my winter tyre and just switched to the R model but only done one ride so too early to comment much, they seemed fine though). That said I'm not sure they'd be any less resistant to something that can split open a Pro Race 3 (although my last-but-one ride involved me splitting open a Pro Race 3 I had on temporarily...). The HD version of the Ultremo is beefed up though and might be better.0

Thanks all, seems there are plenty of options, here and on the Michelin vs Conti's thread.

If you live in a flinty part of the country, there's no lightweight tyre that is sufficiently durable IME - if you want durability, you need a heavier tyre, simple as.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

I've actually had zero punctures with Pro Race 3 and several punctures and a written off tyre with 4000s. I think it's basically luck.
Don't know if your forum name has anything to do with where you live, but it if it does I live in the same area FWIW.0 -
Michellin Kryllion carbons. I used these to replace my Pro Race 3. A bloody great tyre0

People are too quick to blame the tyre when they get a run of punctures. The simple fact is that if you ride lightweight tyres they are going to let go when you ride over something sharp.0 -
My Ultremos have lasted 2000 miles without a puncture, a mix of country rides and London commuting. I did have to replace the rear one after 1500 miles or so as the cuts in rubber were beginning to bulge.0
