Shimano R440 indicators & tri bars

Hi

I've got a Genesis Day 03 flat bar road bike.

I've fitted some Easton Aeroforce tri bars to try and get a more aerodynamic position but they are causing a problem with my Shimano SL-R440-9 speed shifters....

The problem is that there isn't really sufficient clearance between the bottom of the tri bar arm rest brackets and the handlebars so they're pressing down to some extent on the top of my shifters.

The shifters are changing gear the same as normal but the little orange indicator bar (to tell me what gear I'm in) isn't moving (presumably because of the pressure from above).

It isn't a great problem for me in terms of seeing what gear I'm in and I'm happy to carry on as they are but I'm worried I might be causing long term damage to the shifters overall? Does anyone think this is likely?

There isn't enough space on the handlebars to move the shifters away from the forearm rest brackets so that isn't an available solution.

Thanks

Neil
