How do you guys manage to make your Avatars less than 10kb? It seems like anything more than 2 pixels on a 80x80 square is larger than 10kb. ha ha, driving me crazy!

found a piccie I wanted to use, shrunk it down to the correct size and saved it as a jpg eith high compression turned on.

I think I may have even used mspaint on my pc for all of that as well.

Mine is a smidge over 2KB.
You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.
  • whats your picture? I might be able to change it for you :)

dead easy, get a basic photo editing suite like photo impact 10 - these things always come free with magazines and often with your computer. They might be free to download from the web. Find the resize tool - in photoimpact it's under 'adjust' and it gives you all the options to set the number of pixel parameters, file size etc....

This forum will stretch your picture to fit the size if you use one which is smaller than 80x80. As mine should be this size:

Also, if you have lots of colours remember to save it as a JPEG, and if there are only a few colours (only if there aren't different shades) then a PNG file will be much smaller.

When using Macromedia Fireworks it's just dead simple. Too dead. 1000 years dead.

Open you picture, whatever size but bigger than 80x80, and resize it to 80x80.
When saving the picture, go Save as and then in the opened window select jpeg
and go Options. There you'll find a slider so you can tune the quality of the image from 0
to 100. Using that slider you can reduce/increase the size of the picture and you can see
it the results too. Go down the slider, the file size reduces but you don't loose that much
on the quality of the image. Try it...

Who ever wants I can do it for him.

And Kiblams I think you can achieve a better quality to your avatar.
