Derailleur issues on old road bike. Any ideas?
I've got an old falcon roadbike that I'm commuting on whilst I save for something better. She has issues but I like her. She fits and is crap but endearing enough to keep even when the better shinier thing comes along.
Q1. One of the rear derailleur's limit screws is bent badly but I have no idea where to get a replacement or if it means the derailleur is trashed. It's a sachs huret something or other on a hanger. It changes but it's rough and could use some adjustment. It's a friction shift on the downtube, not indexed.
Q2. The front derailleur is somewhat absent. Can i just put any old double derailleur on there and cable it to a shifter (when I replace the also absent shifter). My shoes are wearing out from kicking it down when I get to a hill on the commute.
I'm presuming there is no cheap way to sort out the whole issue other than making her a fixed/single which i may do when my fitness catches up. In the meantime I'm skint and working on a shoestring.
Cheers to anyone who takes the time to help me!

1/ It's only a standard sized screw, so a hardware shop should have one.
2/ With friction shifting any front mech will do.0 -
Been mulling over that for weeks. Simple. Cheers.0

Had the same problem on my 1985 Raleigh, but it caused another problem which led to the rear mech wrapping itself up in the rear wheel! I just bought a Shimano Altus rear mech for £15 new off ebay and popped that on, easy peasy. Given the age and wear on a Sachs Hurret of that age I would advise you to do the same. I bought the Altus because I needed some lower gears and I put a larger range freewheel on the back, there's nothing to stop you putting something like a Sora mech for a similar price.Norfolk, who nicked all the hills?
