if you didn't get any & the website didn't state "does not include cleats" I'd be contacting the shop who sold them.

I have just bought XT spd pedals from them, yes, they do come with cleats.

why has everyone assumed they've been bought, and come without cleats?

looks like a pre-purchase consultation of the bikeradar collective knowledge to me, rather than a dig at merlin.
