I've succeded in getting the wife into mountain biking,(yay!) and have just bought her a scott scale. its a nice bike but it has rather naff suntour xcm v2 forks on it. she's using almost 3 inches of travel just sitting on it, as do i, and i'm only eleven and a half stone. i know the left leg is coil spring and the right is oil, can i replace the oil with a heavier weight? and how much do i use? i cant find any helpful info on suntours website or the net

Don't think there is any oil in there, and if there is, it is in a sealed cartridge.

    You need a heavier spring.

changing the oil will do nothing other than make the fork slower.

you either need to change the spring or add preload (if possible or the adjuster does anything).

Oh! really? there is what looks like oil ,that seeps past the seal after a long ride similar to my dart 3's, so i assumed there was oil in there.

Might just biff them then, get something better. I wouldnt know where to start with springs and what length/rating. dont even know whats in it now?!

is it the SF9-XCM V2 HLO or the SF9-XCM V2?

the HLO has a hydraulic lock out on the right leg and the other has springs in both legs and no oil damping just an elastomer for the damping.
