Ribble supplied Ultegra ten chain incorrect joining link??

I just received a shimano Ultegra ten speed chain from Ribble.
It came in a stapled up bag instead of a shimano package and it does not have the special snap off joining pin, just a conventional rivet projecting out of the last link.
I have bought a few chains over the years and quite like the shimano snap off system and have not had any problems with it.
This chain says ultegra 6600 on each side plate, anyone know why it has a different joining system.
Ribbles site never mentioned it was OEM or in different packaging so I am not happy at the moment that it is even genuine.

Thanks

You pay OEM prices and want the packaged product? A a pin is £1 which is probably a lot less than you would have saved if you bought a packaged chain. OEM chain comes in bulk length and they cut it to suit.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
  • Monty it never said it was OEM on their site.It was described as a Shimano ultegra 10 speed chain so why would I expect anything else to arrive?
I have plenty of the Shimano links, this chain already has a conventional rivet sticking out of the last link, not sure if I would be happy to remove it and put a proper shimano one in as I fear it will be too loose.

It sounds like they've supplied what they agreed to supply. How much did you pay?

Just read this thread and had been wondering the same thing about an Ultegra chain I purchased recently which has the same joining pin you (rubberjungle) describe. However I've found the following advice on the Shimano website which has reassured me that it should be ok:

•Black connecting pins pre-attached to the outer link (supplied only to the OEMs) can be assembled using Shimano chain tools. The assembly method should be the same as using standard reinforced connecting pins.

One of the reasons internet shopping is cheaper than your LBS.
Shop local and look at what your buying first. if its a few quid more at least you have it straight away and aren't blind purchasing.

Ribble and Chainreaction always supply an OE chain. Notice they don't mention it's a retail chain either, the clue is in the price.
  • Thanks everyone especially Hewg.
I must just have been lucky before as only ever recieved a chain with the snap off rivet, I dont give a hoot about whether it comes in a plastic bag or fancy Shimano packaging I paid just under £20 for it so am not suprised it is OEM, it was the different rivet which concerned me but Hewg has reassured me on that.
Plenty of sites usually state OEM in the description.
On the road's comment above is fair enough but I am not sure that it means Ribble are right in not describing it as OEM.I bought an Ultegra chainset for £93 from Ribble last year which was OEM and described as such which I have no problem with
Anyway I am happy to use it now and it is long enough so I am luckier than fast as fupp was.
    Thanks all.
