sram sx5 rear derailleur and shifters

Hi guys,

the red indicator on my sx5 rear shifter doesn't match up with the gear I'm in.

I'm comfortable with indexing, the gears change fine, it's just that the display is out of sync.

any ideas?

can you use all the gears?

does it match up with the clicks on the shifter?

yes - all gears usable, one change per click - it's just the red marker which doesn't match up = basically, the marker starts at the 2 space, not on 1 the 1. Its 9 gears, so by seventh gear, re line iis on the 8 gap, 8th gear, the red marker is just on 9, and then shifts a tiny bit more to get into 9 - (although thinking about your question, the final shift is a little "soft" so I might tweak the indexing) - but that seems to have no effect on the red marker.

I wonder whether the cable is a bit too slack in top gear, and needs re attaching to the derailleur a bit tighter, followed by re-indexing?

sounds more like the marker is not connected correctly in the shifter.

so has nothing to do with the indexing. and you can not fix it except by opening up the shifter.
