Like the subject says, the crank on my Saracen X-ile (think its around 2002model)is making one hell of a racket when the bike is in motion but not pedaling
What can I do to sort this out?
if it needs a new crank thats no prob, I just want to get good parts for it, halfords would probably fit it with the same shit that was already there. and if anyone could suggest what I go for as I'm totaly new to this biking lark. would be most appreciated.
Cheers.

errmaking one hell of a racket when the bike is in motion but not pedaling
so why do you think it is the crank?
more like a hub problem."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

BB doesn't make sense either, since the noise occurs when not pedalling - most likely a non-drivetrain issue. As nicklouse says, could well be a hub problem, or maybe the headset?0 -
Does it make a racket when you're pedalling?.....more likely rear hub or probably if i remember right they have a freewheel (7spd?) - screw on stylee, rather than a more modern freehub/cassette stylee. freewheels are cheap to replace if its that, but you may end up having to re-new your entire drivetrain as a new freewheel prob wont work with your current chain if its worn...freewheel/chain/chainrings (if they are removable) if not new chainset time. est around £50 inc fitting unless you can do it yourself. Do you have any pics of freewheel/cassette?0
