    nope.

sounds like you have not positioned it correctly before tightening.

Use them on the DH rig.

thanks for the quick reply nicklouse - how should it be positioned? i thought the channel on the clamp could be positioned at any point on the post head to give you a wide range of adjustability :? in case i wasn't clear in my post it is the clamp which moves on the post head not the saddle to clamp.

you need to make sure that it is lined up in the "dimples" correctly before tightening or it will not tighten correctly.

I have them on 2 bikes and hove no probs.

is it the MK1 Or 2 seat post (MK2 is the lighter version of the clamp).

not sure if it's mk1 or 2. it's the one merlin have cheap in 31.6mm.just been and checked and can't see any dimples on the lower part of clamp. there are serrated teeth on the upper part of clamp(to saddle) but as i've said that is fine and never moves. should the height graduation marks face front or rear? i've tried both ways round but with marks to front, underside of saddle rests on head of post when level.sorry to sound like a numpty but i'm normally fairly handy on the spanners and to me it just seems i'm missing something or the clamp just doesn't give enough clamping force.
