I've had my bike for over a year, and only just noticed I can change the gears by either pushing or pulling the levers. I may been doing this subconciously but it was only last night that I physically noticed.

I really noticed the 2 way release on my bike when i was riding a bike with old 510 deore shifters, was sitting there stabbing the lever with my thumb wondering why it didn't work!

It definatly becomes second nature and just feels right to have the leaver work both ways.

Good isn't it. I have real problems on my commuter with it's old STX-RC shifters after riding my other bikes. May need to upgrade the commuter  .
It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

    I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
    Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result

I had a similar eureka moment with the downshift lever that if you press further in will change down 2-3 gears in one shot...genius...

  • My mate pointed this out to me on my bike, he said that apperntly Shimano did this to entice the Sram users, without losing their current followers !
