Well that was fun... just ben out in the woods for 45mins blasting round the little trails and p*ssing people off (bikes are allowed though there, its just the posh ponce's round here seem to think otherwise).

Got some (what it felt like) big air off a dirt jump that I found last week, and the bike flew very well indeed - hopefully i'll tempt the GF out tonight to get some pics!!

Anyways, I digress..

I DID A MANUAL

How? no idea
Why? no idea

Going fairly fast over a set of roots I wanted to pop over the last one, but I think I got the timing wrong and ended up bringing my front wheel up and rolling on the rear for around 5ft :D

Fairly scary as I wasn't covering the brakes at the time and it caught me by surprise, but I didn't bail!! YAY!

Now i've just gotta go and figure out how the hell I did it

The more 'accidental' manuals you do......

You'll have it in no time, although its on my 'to learn' list for about the third year, so i'm probably not best person to give advice...

Sounds good to me, G.I.L.S thread?
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Yes it is, I did an accidental manual the other week. I think it depends on the frame a bit though, my Meta 5 seems to work much better at wheelies than my old frame.
Wish I could master manuals  .

It can't be that hard, infact the principal is very simple, although I can't do it :(

3 or 4 feet is the best i have managed so far but ive only been practising since i got my p1. it is definately easier to attempt on a hardtail but im sure once i get the basics on the HT, i will have the balls to try on my fs.

things i have to remember are to keep my arms straight and to rememebr the back brake!! more often than not i tend to jump straight off the back of the bike because i forget to use the brake!!

i also found that i need to pull back to get the front up then try and stand upwards a little to bring the front further up and give me a better balance point.
  • I'm always finding that I never get the front up enough. I never feel stable enough :?

maybe this thread should be renamed "share your failed manual attempts here" lol.

i was finding that too but by shifting my body "upwards" once the front wheel is lfted a small distance, i found the front wheel would come up to.

of course, i still cant manual a great distance so im not the best one to be gobbing off but i hope a few more hours of attempting should get me there.

Me too, although every now and again I go too far and fall off the back- although I ride constantly covering the brakes, I always seem to forget the back. This of course puts me off a little and I go back to lifting too little. THIS year....

I have done manuals at speed to get over waterbars and the like but slow speed manuals defeat me I either get the wheel up a pathetic couple of inches or on 2 memorable occasions I have ended up on my back wearing a bike

I don't go far enough back before hitting the back brake, then the front slams down. I need to be more brave with the leaning back bit and practice braking more gently. My friend who can manual well says to practice on a gentle downward slope.
