Anyone know anywhere I can pick these up cheap? I'm fine swapping it over but they seem to sell for about £40 which seems a bit obscene for a £50 hub.

While I'm on that note, I have no idea why on earth those things are recommended so often. Very badly sealed so need regreasing regularly. They seem to be built to break, but reassure you that when they do they're maintainable and you can fix everything.

The freehub body on my XT factory set managed to unscrew itself last week, squashing the bearings and seizing the wheel, this required a 14mm allen key to tighen up which no where seems to sell.

Yesterday we arrived at Llandegla just to find my Metas XT hub had also broken, in a completely different way, the freehub body had seized giving me a fixie. Another day sat at the trail head for a couple of hours due to XT hubs, fantastics bits of kit. It worked fine the day before as well.

On the old Crossride vs XT + 717 note, my Crossride wheels have performed perfectly for over 2 years. The freehub is getting a bit loose now from usage. BOTH of my XT hubs have self destructed somehow within 1 year. Coincidence?

buy a hub and give the bearings an overhaul as well.

cheaper than getting them separate as well.

I sacked it off and went for some new Hope Hoops, Pro IIs on Flow. Bit lighter, wider rims, comp spokes instead of plain gauge, tubeless and most importantly not XT hubs! :)

I'll rebuild up the old wheel and pass it to my commuter when I see a cheap Xt hub kicking around.
