Hi,
Been trying helmets in my local Halfords - buying one there through C2W (Halfords).

Being a big bloke, I got a big head and tried them all on only one fitted (just) but it didn't feel comfortable.

Any ideas for helmets please?

Also does anyone know if you can order a helmet through the Halfords C2W like you can the bike? i.e from an outside supplier.

Cheers

I found a Bell Avanti fitted Me well.

but as always go and try as many as you can on as a poorly fitted lid is a useless lid.

Thanks I'm sure I tried them 2 today and they didn't fit - there were definetely bell ones there and those names sound familiar.

Are there any helmets which go above 61cm?

I've got a fairly big head and a Giro Hex is the only one I could find that fit. Says Large is for 59-63 cm.

I crashed badly recently and was very impressed with it - had nasty whiplash/back and neck pain after landing on my head, but my head doesn't hurt at all. They also are replacing it for cheap under their crash replacement thing despite not having the receipt any more.

I've got a 63cm head and the only one I can get to fit is a Specialized Air Force 3 in XL.

Ive got a similar issue to the OP, and at 62cms am finding it hard to find a decent fit. Been looking at the aforementioned Predatore, but seen the '07 version at Winstanley's for £47 and most other places only have the '09 version at nearer £80. What's the difference, if any?!

  • I got a big head too and had trouble finding something that fitted comfortably. I ended up with a Specialized Propero which I still find great.

    yep another vote for specilzed
  • The Slant only shows 54-60 cms, so not good enough, but cant find size listing for the specialized?

What size is your head Sonic? The listings may be out, cos at that price i'd be keen to give it a try!

    hex or flux
I look like one of the cone heads and they both fit me!
Visit Clacton during the School holidays - it's like a never ending freak show.

    Who are you calling inbred?

I've got a big bonce too, but found the Giro Hex to fit well.

It also has a very low back which keeps the helmet from slipping back on your head - which my previous helmet (A Met model that I can't remember) used to. This means that your forehead stays protected.

If you didn't learn anything today, you weren't paying attention!

Handy to know, as I have a scar on the back of my head from brain surgery that i'd like to keep protected too! Unfortunately I just cant buy something called 'Hex'

Another vote for the Hex. I've always struggled to get headwear that fits properly, but the Hex is comfortable and an excellent helmet to boot.

Don't let the name put you off - it's not exactly like many helmets have particularly pleasing names! It's more important how comfortable it is and how safe it'll keep you! On that front, the Hex is excellent. A bit more expensive than some other helmets, but you get what you're paying for...
  • Just found a Limar 747 sized 58-63cm, but not heard of Limar! Any good?

I've got a largeish noggin so have a Large Spesh 2D - I'm on the smallest setting though so it would fit even a proper moon head.
  • Nice if you've got the money...
