i saved up ages to buy a new fork to replace my crappy suntour XCR on my terrago trail. I saw on a popular online shop (which shall remain nameless) a 2008 Rock Shox Recon air race with poplock and seemingly huge discount fromm £300 odd to £199.
I took the day off waiting for arrival to fix to my bike so I out go out tonight, The postie arrived at 1.50 when i opened the lovely box they i immediately noticed that the steerer tube had already been cut to a size loads shorter than my bike needs. It would barely peek over the headset. The description didn't say anything about the tube being pre cut. is supect its off a display bike.
What can I do, would it be cost effective to get a new crown and steerer tube from rock shox. Or should I get my money back a keep saving.
Balls. :

where did you buy it? got a link?
Most of the forks that have stupidly short steerers are dirt cheap, but it will say in the listing0 -
Do you have a link to the item? Is it from a shop?
If so you have ever right to return it for a refund under the distance selling regualtions.
Unless stated, all new forks should come with an uncut steerer.0 -
if it was advertised as new send it back.
you will need new crown assy. Legs/crown/steerer."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

sounds like Merlin, but usually they advertise if the steerer is shorter than standard0

Yep, send it back- if the shop didn't mention it, they should cover return post, if they did and you just missed it then you still have the right to return under DSR but will need to cover postage.Uncompromising extremist0

You only have to cover the postage if they say you have to in their T&Cs prior to purchase.0 -
Is that true? I thought returning unwanted goods was your own concern. Which is different of course from returning received faulty or misrepresented goods.0

Not a lot of people know that, particularly shops, so you could face some resistance. At the end of the day though, even though it doesn't seem "right", they are the ones in business so should have their T&Cs in order. And if not? Well it's their loss.0

Agreed!
Now if I could just get those book clubs to stop sending me the 'editors choice' that I don't want because I forgot to check my account :twisted:0
