Hey!

I am currently comfortizing and readying my Giant SCR 3.0 for a bit of a tour (haven't decided where yet but it will be on road and epic) and am looking Schwalbe Marathon Slicks for comfort, durability, and low rolling resistance.

Will Schwalbe Marathon Slicks 700 x 35c fit Alex DA22 rims? The rims have a 13.9mm internal width.

According to Sheldon (http://www.sheldonbrown.com/tire-sizing.html) there is a table saying 15mm rims shouldn't really go above 32mm tires.

But he does mention this guide errs on the side of caution and that other people have exceeded these guidelines and been ok.

"If you use a very wide tire on a narrow rim, you risk sidewall or rim failure. This combination causes very sloppy handling at low speeds"

This doesnt sound too good!

So what do you think? Has anyone had experience riding wider tires like these on relitively narrow rims? Should i go for the 32 size instead to be a bit safer?

Have you also considered the clearance around the rear stays, brake levers and front fork too? You may find they are too narrow for the tyre you are thinking of.

I've toured on the road with 28C tyres (4 panniers, plus tent) and found that comfy enough. I do have a suspension seat post though.
