Upgrade advice
I'm considering doing an upgrade and wondered if the good folk of bikeradar can advise on compatibility. I want to fit the following to update my 8 speed Shimano equiped bike will it all work ?
Shimano Tiagra 4500 Chainset - Triple
Shimano Tiagra 4500 Bottom Bracket Cups
Shimano Sora STI Levers [existing]
Shimano 105 10 Speed Rear Derailleur
Shimano 105 Front Derailleur Triple Braze On
Shimano HG73 Chain
Your thoughts would be useful to hear.
Thanks

There is a mix of 8, 9 and 10 speed stuff there. It will be a right dog's dinner in my opinion.0

Pretty much what I'm using but for 9 speed.
Cant see anyproblems with it.0 -
Thanks Wappygixer
Hi NapoleonD
I would be interested to hear your recommendations based on the same sort of budget [£300] and spec.

The only observation I would make would be to go for the 9 speed 105 rear derailleur and not the 10 speed if you are sticking with 8-speed.
Also, if you are replacing the chainset and the chain, then it would make sense to change the cassette at the same time.
What are you actually trying to achieve by upgrading?
If it is smoother shifting, then I think the perceived wisdom is that the shifters themselves have the most bearing on this - so maybe consider upgrading those first to Tiagra or 105?
I think the impact of the other upgrades will be quite small in comparison - maybe a marginal weight saving - but they might look a little better which is OK
Hope this helps,

Whats your current bike?
You may be better to save up a little more and put it towards a new bike especially with the higher prices at the moment.0 -
Thanks for the info so far
The plan is a to update a much modded Trek 1.2 which I don't want to replace but want to upgrade to a triple within the £300 budget. My biggest problem is poor shifting and running out of gears. I want to use all the gears in all rings like my mountain bikes and have a 3rd ring to cover all rides..
So what about ?
Shimano 105 Front Derailleur Triple Braze On
Shimano Tiagra 4500 STI Shift/Brake lever - 9 speed
Shimano Tiagra 4500 Chainset - Triple
Shimano Tiagra 4500 Bottom Bracket Cups
The cassette is new.
