hi all,
got another question. been really chuffed with the responses to my other 'dumb' questions, looks like ive found a really good, patient forum :D

which pedals should i opt for if i get a Boardman sport mtb, as im sure i read somewhere boardmans dont come with pedals?!

not into clips or anything like that as i reckon i would be constantly falling over  i usually ride in trainers or adidas bearclaw thingys (quite thin soled)

oh, and what are spd???

cheers in advance dudes

SPD stands for Shimano Pedaling Dynamics. Basically it means pedals with cleats, that your shoes clip into.

If you want a pair of 'flats', ie ones that you just rest your foot on, try Wellgo MG1s. Sealed bearings, magnesium (so strong and light), grippy, etc. All for £35.

    Another Wellgo MG1 fan here.

I now have my DMR V12's on my custom SX.
I heard that Wellgo actually make the V's on behalf of DMR!! And, the Wellgo's are much cheaper.

Was able to pick up a MG1Ti for pretty much the same money as a V12 (Mag). Light as hell. Perfect for my Stumpy FSR.
Stumpy, Rockhopper (stolen!) & custom SX Trail II - that should do it!

    cheers for the replys guys

had a quick look at chain reaction web site, noticed they do wellgo v8 and v12 copies at £10 and £20 respectively. had a look on wiggle too.
magnesium wellgo and dmr look really nice, but maybe a bit expensive for me to justify :? im sure i will do what i always do tho, and spend far more than i budget to get something that is good and highly rated 8)

    thanx for the advice

    Gusset slim jims.
I'm running the basic 20 quid model and i can't fault them. Replacable pins, large platform and quite a low profile.

I also rock some V8's which i've had for a while. Bearing life seems good, and the grease port is useful. Removable pins aswell. Paint quality could be better...but that's just me being a tart :D

if i was in the market for some new flat pedals, i'd buy the wellgo mg1.

but i have done nearly 4000 miles with my v12's and they feel as good as new.
    dunno about the wellgo's durability.
  • If you have big feet then get gusset slim jims.

If your of normal size, then i'm sure mg1 or v12's will do.

I think MG1 are bigger than the Jims!

Its not just about size tho' I find the shape of Slim Jims miles better as they are a bit squarer shaped against the more lozenged shape of V8/12 and clones. I just feel more comfortable on them and am a 10 in the boot dept (5:10 boots) so not just for big foot....

MG1 are a bit different from the standard V8/12 shape though - 114.6 x 106.2 apparently lol. (mm)

I love my MG1s, I do have a set of V8s but they got relegated to the spare bike after I got the MG1s, they do everything at least as well and they're lighter. Win.

  • The only thing with MG1s is that with the inevitable clouts from rocks, I've seen the pins end up at weird angles where the mag body has distorted. Normal V8's/V12's seem to be tougher, don't know about the mag ones though.

I got my boardman Team 09 MB from halfords and they stuck a set of pedals on it - ok i changed them but it had some on never the less. Im sur if you asked them they would stick some on for you at no extra cost.

Its only the Boardman road bikes that do not come with pedals. Yes, they are basic and nothin special but the MTB's do at least come with some if you dont want to buy any before you get the bike,
