Our business broadband says 3.42mbs, still not great! But our 100mbs line is shared across the company!0

My AOL is 3.59 mbps.
I remember when I started uni in 1996, on the dial up modems, about 7kbps lol.0 -
My Verizon Business connection maxed out at 10.1Mbps download, 960kbps upload :-)2010 Lynskey R230

Nice thing is, is that BT claim the max I can get due to the distance I live from the exchange is approx 3.5Mb/s down but BE use their own equipmentOrange 2010 P7 - Custom Build - My New Bikey Poos

Is it the case that if using a wireless router, I would have to wire the connection to my laptop to get a true speed?0

Assuming that you have a recent-ish wireless set up and have a good strong signal then it should give you a fairly accurate rate as the wireless will be able to handle more than your broadband can do anyway.
Maybe do 2 or 3 runs to get an idea if all is steadyOrange 2010 P7 - Custom Build - My New Bikey Poos

I have a data streem indicator from the wireless modem - it can provide 54mbps, way in excess of what is piped in.0

Yeah, the advertised speeds are usually if you live in the exchange, have solid gold cables and are called Sir Branson.0

Just complained to talktalk
I've wired the connection and getting the same speed. Also used talktalks own tester and gets identical speeds.
I should be getting "up to" 8 mbs and I live 400 yards from the exchange lol !

If anyone else is with talktalk and they think they are having probs don't bother with their telephone help lines just go straight to the customer services forum.
