Anyone familiar with the Marin Quad linkage?

The bike took a hammering at the weekend and since then ive noticed a noise from the linkage, like a knocking noise which occurs on the direction change between compression and rebound.

Now I know your all thinking bearings but thing is there is no play in the linkage at all, its solid. Im testing it by putting a foot on the rear wheel and lifting on the saddle whilst feeling the linkage for any play. Should I expect some movement from the knackered ones? Worn bearings stick out like a sore thumb on my Maestro linkage Giant using the same test.

Is there anything else I should check? The bearings are silly money so I wouldnt want to cough up for a set if it dosn't fix it!!! I noticed while I had the shock out before that the large (bottom) shock bush and hula hoop is seized solid in the shock, LBS said not to worry about it, does that sound right? Will it cause any damage in the long term?

Its a 2008 Wolf Ridge, how long should I expect a set of bearings to last? Its had about 12 months aggresive XC use.

Cheers :D

I might be wrong but I thought the bearings were guaranteed for 10 years or something like that? (I have the same bike).

Why don't you take the shock out and see if the linkage moves smoothly?

They are but only if you are the original owner, which im not. Otherwise they are £50 a set

Had another look last night and im pretty sure its one or two of the bearings, LBS are going to take a look tomorrow to confirm. Tested by removing the linkage then poking the bar back through and wiggling it about, although there is no lateral movement I could move the end of the bar in bigger circles with some bearings than others.

    Grrr :D

Had a linkage service done last week, LBS say everything is tight and nothing needs replacing but still a noticable knock on the direction change. They did the normal ass covering exercise of saying the shock needs a service but whilst looking through the FAQs on Tftuned website they say the RP23 does often have a knock like this and its nothing to worry about?? Something to do with the valves moving??

Dont want to shell out for an unnessessary shock service only for it to be the same after. To top it all off, riding at the weekend got chatting to a chap on a Mount Vision and he drops the line 'yeah, mine used to do that, turned out the frame was cracked'!!!!!!

    Anyone heard of this before?
