I had a half day off work today, so decided to take advantage of the good weather and a do a long ride from Cropston to Rutland water and back, taking in some of the roads that will be part of the East Midlands CiCLE Classic on Sunday.

I was just entering Burrough on the Hill from the Great Dalby road and recovering from the steep climb on that road when a group of 8 or so riders entered the village from the Owston Road coming in the opposite direction. I gave them a friendly wave and thought one face(and hair) looked familiar--I'm fairly certain from the face and the kit, that it was Malcolm Elliot and the Pinerallo Racing team, obviously training for Sunday.

Hope the weather stays good for the event. I'll be there in Owston to see them go through several times.

I'm guessing you're not doing the Sportive on Saturday then?

I'm rashly attempting the 100 mile, but hope to be in a fit state on the Sunday to watch the professionals.

Might take the kids along too. 'There you go kids, Daddy is that good too'

    Did they wave back?

I've seen most of the British Track squad out at some point, and some of them are proper miserable buggers (could hardly say they were training either, they weren't going anywhere fast), but most of them acknowledge you.

I am riding to Oakham for the sart and then tracking back to Owston for a few passes and then back to Melton for the finish.

Watching in Owston is really great with Hugh Porter giving live commentary.

Can't do the Sportive on Saturday as its my son's 11th Birthday Party. From what I've heard its not a very well organised sportive. My first Sportive of the year is the Squires and Spires on May3rd

seemed perfectly well organised to me based on my experience of no previous events :). only a couple of issues that I heard about.

it was their first event though so if you let me know of any organisational issues you've heard about I'll pass them on.

and I finished the whole 100 miles  , furthest I've ever cycled, first sportive etc. so well chuffed.

however, I can now state with confidence that your son having a sleepover the night after an event does not help the recovery process .

Forgive me. It was the Sportive in July, that covers the same roads as the CiCLE
Classic, that I had heard was badly organised, not this new one the day before the classic. Its a pity it was clashing with other things for me, it would have been a good one.

Managed to catch the race at 5 different places today..great weather and quite a spectacle.

Great sunny day for a great race, caught it in Oakham, Cold Overton, Owston, and the finish in Melton.

Also coming through Somerby I picked up one of the guys from the Greek team that had crashed near Rurland and was out of the Race, what a really nice guy, rode all the way back to Melton after checking it was ok for him to ride with me!.
I said it was fine as long as he could keep up!!

I leart more in that half hour ride than i could have ever imagined, my saddle was too far forward and too high. I didn't pedal correctly and a few other things that I would never have known.

    Great Day!!
