Hi Guys
To replace a rear mech ,do you have to remove the chain ,Is it possible to just remove the jockey wheels ,and then take the mech off .
Then refit the reverse way.
Thanks any advise appreciated

I'd take the chain off because setting up a rear mech to start with is far far easier without the chain getting in the way.You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.0 -
Hi Dazz555
Thaks for the reply ,dont really want to take chain off ,no chain removal tool ,
in principal though can it be done?
Im going to change the rear derailler with a new one ,just trying to get it in my head before proceding0 -
Depends on your rear mech, some can be taken apart, others are fixed.0

if you break your chain get a powerling to re connect it. Much easoer to refit and you also can take it off with your fingers in the future.Giant TCR advanced 2 (Summer/race)

Hi
its a kmc chain ,dont think it comes with a powerlink so not sure if i can use a powerlink ,the rear derailler will come apart at the jockey wheels useing a 2.5 mm allen key, just thought i could undo the the bolts take wheels out and back plate off derailler ,put new derailler on ,position chain with the jockey wheels , back plate back on tighten bolts ,- do you think it can be done

If the jockey wheels are removable then yes.
Sounds like hassle to me though - I'd still rather just go and buy a link removal tool - handy to have anyway. You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
