chain before cables bike build?

attemping my first bike build - quick question put on my cranks/BB and now doing derailers, do I fit my chain before doing any gear cables?

I always set my mechs up with the chain off, then do any final small adjustments with the chain on.
So, do the cables first, then fit the chain, then check everything works and adjust as required.

I agree. Having the chain on is a pita.

It is impossible to adjust gears without a chain lol. But can be easier to set the stops on the rear mech without it. You need to visually set the front realtive to the chain.

My advice: build it fully, then adjust it.
