Magura Brakes Bleeding Query

i have been trying to bleed my magura louise brakes to get a firmer and better feel.

i have new pads to install so have the BAT adjustment totally screwed off. I go through the normal bleeding process as describe in the Magura manual but when i finish off and go to pump the lever it still moves a considerable distance before i get a decent brake. The only way to improve this is to screw the BAT adjuster fully on, but this defeats the purpose as i normally use this to keep the biting point at the same distance as the pads wear.

i am doing it correctly and taking about 30mins on each brake and tapping the caliper and hose to ensure that all bubbles are gone.

Any ideas on how to get a brake lever that bites as soon as you start pulling it? i know it is achievable as i have ridden demo bikes with the Louise setup like this.

The Louise is an open brake system which means you should not have to adjust the BAT for pad wear - it is automatic, done as the seals flex in the caliper.

So you should be using the BAT to adjust bite point!

Make sure there are no leaks.
  • i thought the whole reason for BAT was to keep the bite point the same as the pads wore?

i was out tonight and i can now get a really good lever and feel when i change the reach and screw the BAT fully on.

Supersonic - if it is an open system and i dont have to adjust the BAT for wear does this mean my lever will get progressively worse and i will have to bleed them halfway through the pad wear?

    you have 2 seperate adjusters.

you have a lever reach adjuster and a bite point adjuster.

    the pads are self adjusting.
