It's a nasty little climb that the desent after it is well worth it though. Have you tried the new bit on the purple route yet? Well worth a look when ou're next up there.

It is/was mainly firetrail but now the singtrack goes from the top of the park down to where the advanced climb goes down by the A3. It also crosses the advanced just before the desent into the snakebite switchback section in your pics. It's not sign posted yet but it's hard to miss, go left from the snakebite up the fire road keep left climb to the top and it's about 20 meters after the bridal path on the left.

As for slow and steady, yeah maybe but I would say it has the longest climb out of the two official routes in the park. The new advanced climb is much easier now it's not straight up the side of the hill :)

I live about 6 miles away from there. I won't be about Sunday, it's my birthday so out with the mrs and kids, thanks for the offer though maybe some other time.

You should try going out the back of the park too, there's some good riding off the sdw.

Here's a video of that singletrack I was on about.if you go right at 3.55 instead of down on the grass you can pick up the orange route again down past the A3 then do the climb and go down the switchbacks afterwards, makes the loop a bit longer.

Would that be something to do with meat pies? ;)

nice pics, you might want to get some more padding and protection if you're coming off that often. Last time I came off I broke my wrist and was off the bike for 2 months :(

IT :) I wasn't doing much work whilst I was riding. Did answer a couple of emails on the old blackberry when I got to the top though :)

Sunday should be ok. I normally ride up butser then come down the front into the park, so let me know what time and which car park you'll be in and I'm stiop and say hi if nothing else :)

the red quad xc, I used to have a 04 marin rift zone and that was a smart bike too, i just found it a little flexy on the back swinging arm for my liking so i swapped it for a kona dawg matic but I love the new marins - a quake would be my choice if i had the money !!
