Do new suspension forks make this sort of noise?

Unfortunately my quest to find some pro los near me proved fruitless since all known bike stores around my area have sold out of them due to such good reviews about them . So i decided to get the 2009 equivilent the 22 los that had the nifty remote lockout that my old forks didn't have . When I was riding them out on a test run in richmond , they started making a strange clunking and rubbing noise everytime i make a hard compress on the fork

Heres the best sound capture i can do .
I took the bike back to my lbs and they say its just excess oil that needs to be broken into the systems after speaking to windwave about it .
Is there any truth about this because this is the first time a new suspension fork i've bought has made such a noise?

sounds like the wheel hitting the floor.

what is the noise you are on about?

    the load metallic bang?

Sounds like a very harsh rebound top out clunk to me...does it do it if you slow the rebound down?

yup the loud metallic bang. Nothing is hitting the bike from above . The noise is being generated inside the fork everytime i compress the thing . Dunno if you can hear it but there is also rubbing noise against the thing alongside the bang as if my bushings are dead already (this is a factory fresh fork) and to answer the 2nd post, I don't think the fork has rebound just preload

If these are the same forks then it does have rebound..

definately sounds wrong to me..sound like its rebounding too fast..rebound knob will be on right leg

I don't think it has adjustable rebound according to the offical site . Merlin may be mistaken

Some ppl say its the coil spring that needs breaking in . Is this a possibility?

Its possible, rebound spring could be too stiff, not enough oil in the system....if they dont break in then i'd be returning them..RS rebas can be had for £230 or toras for same money as you have prob paid for the 22's...both better forks

the rebound on that fork looked, on the video, very slow. and top out clunk shouldn't happen at all on a decent fork.
    sounds faulty to me.
I took falling off bikes...and turned it into an art!

thanks for the suggestions . The noise only occurs i make a sudden fast compression like that on the video or if i hit ramp/ log/kerb . I'll try and make a better video tmr after i come back from work . My LBS still think theres nothing wrong according to windwave and i keep on comparing these 22s to the cheaper rsts, suntour epicoms , x fusions snd RS darts saying to them (and compressing the bikes that were attached to them) that they don't make a noise like that . Of course, they did say give it about 2 weeks and if it still makes that noise , they will investigate it better I'm just hoping these don't become lemons that my last 09 zocchis nearly became back in January . My last zocchis the pro los performed perfectly until my foolish actions towards it giving my some hope for their 09 replacements . Just hope my 3rd chance with zoke won't end in tears

The 22 doesnt seem to be to be anywhere near the quality of the old MX.

After looking at your video - that is horrific. Metal on metal top out. I would go as far as saying the worst I have ever seen, and i have seen some sh!te.

    Get rid of it.

Does the fork has oil damping?
    Or it's fixed mechanical :? ?

sorry does the noise happen as you compress the for or as it finishes the end of the extension?
The noise only occurs i make a sudden fast compression

    you are confusing the issue.

In the vid it looks like it happens at full extension?

Sound buggered mate. Send them back, and ask for a refund, get some RS forks.

Sorry the fork does make that strange noise when it rebounds after i push it downwards .

Basically, the thing bangs/rubs against something inside when the stanctions are rebounded up to full travel on the top

I had the same problem a week ago with my fork. But it wasn't hitting that hard or producing that much of noise.

My problem was that the rebound (cartridge? don't know )was knocked out from the
upper legs to the bottom of the lower legs (I think, that's how I understood the guy). :?
That happened after I compressed the fork to it's full travel.
The fix was just some replacement of some rubber part.

That's maybe your problem too, but if the fork doesn't have oil damping, this doesn't applies.

The fork does have rebound damoing, but evidently no top out bumper or negative spring, which is the problem.
