Replacing bearing cartridges in Hope hubs without the tools

I'm speccing up a new roadbike that I will be using for touring as well. I've had good experiences with Hope hubs on my mtb, so looking for similar on this.

The question I have is about what to do if bearings fail while on a long trip, especially if there are no bike shops (or at least bike shops with Hope tools, as I intend to do a lot of riding in Asia). As the cartridges are very small and light, it would be easy to bring some with me, but the same can't be said about the 'correct' Hope tools.

In an emergency, would fitting new cartridges by hand be ok? By OK I mean 'will do me a few hundred km until I get somewhere that they can be refitted properly'.

Most bearings can be done with a drift and hammer.Bearing pullers etc. can be used but the cost puts most home mechanics off.
A good drift (parallel pin punch) is all thats needed to knock the old one out.You can then pop your new bearing in and use the old one on top to knock your new one home so as not to damage it.

    Thanks for that info wappy.

Unfortunately, there seems to be something wrong with the Hope website so I can't see what they supply as tools for the Pro II, but I was under the impression that a special tool was needed to ensure perfect alignment of the two cartridges. Am I wrong in this, and all thats needed is a tool for extraction?

just use a socket for re fitting and make sure it is fully seat ed and you will be right.
