Can you run 10spd chainset & rings ok when the rest of the drive is 8spd?

I've done plenty of 8/9 and 9/10 mix and match, but never 8/10!

What are the potential problems

you might get some chainring rub but other than that it should be okay.

If you did run into problems then one option is to run a 9spd chain. This works okay with 8spd and is slightly narrower.

I run a Campag Centaur chainset with an other wise 8spd drivetrain on my commuter. and don't experience any issues - but I never leave the 53T big ring as my commute is pan flat.
