I'm getting a little desperate for a stowaway-able wind/waterproof jacket, that I can shove in my rear pocket for those "just in case" rides.
All I can seem to find is bulky jackets that'll catch the wind like a kite
So please, for the love of God, someone must know of a snug, non-kite-like, non-bulky jacket????
Anyone????
(please, someone help me out before I go all crazy and buy one those Rapha Stowaway jackets   8) [only because I saw a guy wearing one the other day and thought, Hmmm, that's the sort of thing I want - although the £175 price tag is making me baulk a little............well, a lot actually!])

I got an Altura Cropton jacket free with my C+ subscription. Fits in the seat pack with the tool / tube etc so I always have it with me.
never got the hat that was meant to come with it though!0 -
Do you sweat much in that jacket N.D? (sorry, don't mean to be personal!!).
Those Montane's look ok, especially as the factory is about 6 miles away from me. Might pop and see if there's a factory shop.0 -
or there is the gore oxygen 3 jacket. like all things rapha or assos or sometimes castelli they are going to be expensive as your paying for a more professional quality. i have the gore oxygen 3 even if it doesnt have any of the reflective bits the xenon would have but being goretex it is waterproof and just enough breathable so it will hold a very small amount of moisture on the inside.

Well, it looks like a trip to the Montane factory shop is in order. See what they look like and hopefully they might have them a little cheaper!
Cheers
(that Rapha one still looks nice though )0 -

It's not perfect but for 10 quid...
To be honest, I take mine with me when it looks like rain but I've only ever worn it a couple of times in 18 months,It is quite warm. I'm just not too bothered about getting wet, as long as I'm a comfortable temperature!
I commute in all weathers by the way.0 -
Montane Featherlight is good.
I've recently got a Gore Cross (Gore-Tex Paclite), which seems great, but a bit more expensive.0 -

I have a Montaine Featherlite - it's very light and takes up no room in a jersey pocket, however while it is windproof it is not waterproof. You might be alright in a light shower but anything more than that and it starts to seep.
They're also a tad on the large side choose your sizing carefully otherwise you'll be flying like a kite at the next gust of wind
I've not yet found a decent lightweight waterproof as I generate a lot of heat when cycling and generally end up with boil in the bag syndrome. Don't mind being wet as long as I can keep warm.________________________________

Another vote for the pocket rocket. And I'd underline the Featherlite comment. They're tiny but not waterproof and do try to imitate a windsock at the slightest opportunity"The only absolute statement is that everything is relative" - anon0

The Montane H2O is waterproof and packs about the same as the Featherlight. Slightly more expensive but well worth it. Mine got a LOT of use last year.0

+1 Montane Featherlight
They aint waterproof... WHO CARES! They are windproof, tiny, and ideal as a carry everywhere shower top.
If you want waterproof, you need to buy specific, and they don't breathe easily and are cumbersome and heavier.
I love my Montane cos I can take it on any ride, not notice it, and it does a good job when needed. If its howling a gale I'll wear a phantom, and if its raining cats and dogs I'll wear a waterproof.
Anything else and I slip the apple size bag in to my pocket. The sleeves "flap" a bit, but thats cos its pertex and so thin it is impossible not to react to wind. A heavier jacket wont flap, but only as its made of thicker material.
One other thing... you can keep treating it with Nikwax or similar to maintain or improve the waterproofing.0 -
+1 montane featherlite. use mine alot, perfect just to throw on to stop the wind as temp drops and stop a bit of light rain.
I also have a gore oxygen which is great but heavier and only needed if its hissing down. expensive too
The montane does flap out a bit but hardly a problem, really.0 -
Exactly, if it rains, you wear a rain jacket. If its sunny, and you aren't sure, you take a compromise.
Try carrying a normal rain jacket in your back pocket all day.
The featherlite is excellent for chilly mornings too, until the sun comes out.0 -
Another vote for the Montane featherlite.
Windproof, but as others have said, definitely not waterproof.
Women's specific is a good fit on me.0 -
You can wear a gilet as that will take some of the rain off you but obviously it depends how hard the rain is. Just get the Stowaway and be done with it. Mine came today (Orange), but I did get a discount. Reviews on www.velodramatic.com and www.thewashingmachinepost.netM.Rushton0

I have the montane featherlite gilet - stayed dry but cool for an hours worth of down pour last Saturday - I would be smug if I hadn't forgotten overshoes.0

Lardy, with a bike like yours, you definitely need the Rapha0
-
I have a Gore Cross jacket for sale. Black size L as I slimmed and bought another in medium as I liked it that much. It is paclite and can be rolled up to the size of a drinks can and very very light. Handy off the bike too as it just looks like an ordinary jacket. Slightly longer arms and back but not ridiculous. Mainly kept in rear jersey pocket so very little wear.
Retails for £125
Selling for £70 if anyone interested?Giant Anthem X3 20130 -
Just get the Stowaway and be done with itLardy, you definitely need the Rapha
Hey, guys, I'd love nothing more than to buy the Rapha (wouldn't go for orange though, not my colour  ), but I've got some spending money to save for my trip to gay Paris to watch the end of the TDF
Montane it is, I think, still need to pop to the factory shop and see if there's any bargains.0 -
where exactly is their factory shop like ?0
-
Just get the Montane, it's superb and far better value than the Rapha.

I had mine on this morning, to keep off the chill. Hardly knew I had it on. It came home in my rear pocket.
Like wearing a rizla paper.0
