NEW MAVIC AKSIUM WHEEL WITH METAL HUB COVER - HOW TO REMOVE?

Just bought new Mavic Aksium wheelset and new veloce cassette. Tried to install cassette as per instructions but immediately realised that wasn't possible as there's a metal bit on the end of the hub which blocks the splines. I've tried the cassette lockring tool on it (to remove it) but doesn't connect properly. I'm thinking I can just use a wrench and remove the metal bit but it looks so solid I wouldn't like to damage it, especially by forcing it. The thing that really confuses me is the fact at no point in any of the instructions is there ANY info on what that metal bit actually is.

Please help!

It does sound like the casstte lockring which comes with the wheels. Are you sure you are using the correct tool?

Here's a picture of the issue. I'm sure it's pretty straightfoward, just thought best I got a second opinion. I'll have to check if i have the correct tool

    Cheers

That's the lockring all right. Get the tool and it's a doddle.
