Excellent, is that a Halfords bike given the 'Hinde' treatment?

    NapD,
I understand your prejudice against dork discs, pumps, lights etc in the pics but why are bottle cages acceptable ,surely they're as much of an abomination against the clean lines of a lovely frame(...and "my game,my rules" won't cut it )

No. Not when they look as good as mine.

I don't think you'll save too much weight by discarding the dust caps ;)

Edit: You have a short valve tube at rear / long valve tube on the front! That must be against OCP guidelines!!

I don't use dust caps but that's because they do nowt on prestas and they are fiddly buggers in winter with gloves on anyway.

This is OCP bikes, not photography BTW! The industry standard OCP bike shot is, unfortunately, a white garage door.

Yes indeed, comments had been made on the above shots regarding tyres and logos, except for the Look, that guy is OCP king...

Thankfully I already had the white garage door

  • Is there any dispensation for not having a garage and for the previous occupant of my flat having a thing for burgandy feature walls?

You'll have to find a neighbour's garage door when they are out I'm afraid...
  • Its apartment blocks all around here and the only garage door I can think of is blue.

Perhaps if I move the sofa....

It will have to wait until I can lift both my arms up then :D

Hmmm, not convinced. Too close with wideangle lens, it's blurred and there is a yukky pinkish glow from the room light on. Get it outside, man, nature's softbox (a cloudy day) is the best.

If you insist on using white backgrounds then RTFM. You don't ride a bike with stabilisers so why use a camera that way? Either switch to manual exposure or in Auto dial in +1 compensation. Zoom to a short telephoto setting, move the car off the drive if you have to back up to get a good shot. Any poorly exposed, blurred or badly lit shot will never cut it; the user must learn how to operate the camera. Ignorance of photography skills is no excuse if you're taking this job seriously - if you don't know how to use the tool then hand it over to someone who does.

Below was taken 2 years ago, when my bike was new, before I gave a fig about the OCP guidelines (in mitigation: I have a dark blue garage door). When I've cleaned some of the winter cr@p off it and fitted some shiny new bits I'll reshoot against a better background.

A snap of a motorised two-wheeler in natural setting here. 35mm SLR, short telephoto lens, cheap print film and a little patience is all it took.

If you insist on using fence backgrounds then RTFM. You don't ride a bike with stabilisers so why creosote a fence that way? Either switch to manual brushing or in Auto 'Cuprinol Sprayable' dial in -1 compensation to prevent overspray and dripping. Zoom to a short spray setting, move the BBQ away from the fence, if you have to back up to get a good shot. Any badly painted fence will never cut it; the user must learn how to operate the creosote. Ignorance of garden maintenance skills is no excuse if you're taking this job seriously - if you don't know how to use the tool then hand it over to someone who does.

Hey, who says I don't use stabilisers?!? Stop that at once!

Nice try though, but I can only give 3/10 for originality. The obvious plagiarism ruined your score.

I don't use creosote, and that's someone else's (new) fence. The alternative background was the brick wall of my garage in direct sunlight so no go. My own fence is dark green, rotten as a pear and half fallen down - woefully inadequate.

And I don't wimper to my dad so he transforms my pathetic efforts using Photoshop (which I'd call cheating) ;)

@ pastey_boy the bike needs to be more upright. On-camera flash is never flattering, see my earlier post re. lighting. Noticeable barrel distortion, which can be reduced by zooming or an upgrade (unless you have a curved wall). It's not long until Christmas...

It's all about the bike not the photography. If I wanted a lecture in photography I'd join a photography forum. The bike complies with the OCP rules (oh, and taking the picture outside in this weather wouldn't have given particulalry good lighting would it?)
