O.k without the parktools tool. How do i set the crown race in place it seams very tight, have tried the hammer tapping it but it only goes so far, then gets stuck 6mm above the seat.Is there any old tips? I managed to get the old one off using the tips from nicklouses page but i can't find any for resetting a new one.May be a workshop on replacing forks wouyld be an idea. Oh yeah its an fsa Orbit z headset on to reba sl's!

The last time i fitted one i used a length of waste pipe and a lump hammer, this worked fine for me.Just cut a length of 32mm waste pipe,3-4 inches longer than the steerer tube, push the crown race down the steerer as far as it will go then slide the pipe over the steerer and tap with hammer.job done .Hope this helpsMy Orange Pro: http://www.pinkbike.com/photo/3282429/

I just put my first one in. This was my method:
I got a large adjustable wrench, opened it up to sit in the crown race face, not the uppermost part that contacts the bearings (already installed over steerer column). I then wrapped it (the wrench head) in a rag as to not scratch anything.
Then I belted the head of the wrench with a hammer - HARD.
Went straight on after 3/4 good whacks.
But as always be careful, and if you're not confident take it to LBS0 -
^good idea
i used a long piece of wood held against the steerer long-ways with its base on the flat part of the race and tapped it down in a x pattern till it was set, put a tiny smear of loctite 641 on it too, no creaks here0 -
Oh, and grease the steerer well before0

Yeah done it now thanks
ended up going through the cellar looking for a piece of old pipe, not to find anything the right size!! So i turned a bit of nylon down to press fit a bit of 40mm tube and the 35degree of the crown face! Whacked it on with soft faced hammer and aptly placed coaster and it worked a treat. If that did'nt work i was thinking of polishing it out or cutting a slot in!!0
