Got around £40-£50 budgeted..

Looking at the mace ignition and raceface 6x6 shorts but i'm not sure.

Just seen the saint/xt shorts too...opinions?

Need to be able to get raceface FR knee/shin pads under them..

Anyone?

haven't tried the ignition shorts but I have the Mace NOS shorts and think they are awesome. The padded liner is a great fit and very comfortable. The cut is great, no excess material flapping about and snagging on the bike but still look casual and enough room to fit knee pads . build quality is also well up to standard. hope that helps?
  • Aye thats awesome :)

What size did you get out of interest?
I'm only a 34-36" waist, however with jeans I have to get a 38" waist and wear a belt due to my tree trunk legs
Not really keen on tight fitting items!
  • Got the Fox Attack 08 from Evans a couple of weeks ago, reduced to £45.

They got good reviews last year when they came out, and I was seriously lusting after them, but no way I was gonna pay £75!!

Really well vented, good liner, nice fit.

Look better than this years version IMO.

    Student option -

Visit your local army surplus emporium. By a pair of grade 1 issued British DPM fatty-gues. £10 tops.

Cut them off about 6 inches below the knee. Give them to mum/girlfriend/girlfriend's mum/favourite aunty/granny and ask her to turn the bottoms up and hem them.

Now visit your local haberdashery or hardware shop and buy a pack of Navy Blue cold water fabric die. Die pants.

Hey presto! 1 pair of hard-wearing, multi-pocketed, pre-bedded in freeride shorts in snazzy "night camo" pattern for less than the price of a quarter and some skins.

One thing I would say about the Attacks is that they are very lightweight - lots of mesh and very thin fabric. Fine for XC but I wouldn't reccomend them if you're likely to be coming off at all as it won't take much at all to rip them.

  • hmm, thats a good point.. cheers mate.
Still looking at the mace shorts tho, like the look of them.

I WISH I could find somewhere that will sell Dakine shorts.
I've been after these for ages, but nowhere seems to stock them :(

I've got medium sized ones and also have the same waist size 34-36". I do some times find that jeans can be a bit tight on the thighs but the problem hasn't been bad enough to move up to 38". The mace shorts are a fitted cut so in my opinion from what you say I would go for large. There are waist adjusters to pull the waist in if needed too.
  • Awesome cheers for that mate :)

Def at the top of the list atm :)

have a look at some of the aniamal and fox shorts
  • Well... I went to TK-MAX today... not really on the look out for anything, but I spotted a nice pair of Quicksilver Shorts.

They're the tough cotton material so are perfect for riding in, and are nice and baggy for pads :)

Only cost me £19 (rrp £65!!!!) so that ain't bad at all!
