I am right in thinking that asking 25% of original purchase price is a reasonable amount to ask for a used frame in pretty good condition.
I have a GIOS A90 ultalite that will be up for sale once it's stripped of its parts and cleaned and am looking for a realistic starting point.

With something like that, eBay would be a good place to sell, start it off at the lowest you want for it.

Post plenty of pictures and give as accurate description as you can.

    It's a seller's market out there!

Gios A90 is an alloy frame, no? Those are out of fashion atm. The fact that it is a relatively obscure Italian marque probably won't help... have you tried selling it through a race orientated bike shop? They might get you a better return. Alternatively, if it's a 55cm tt, you could try selling it me :D I need a new race frame....

Gios 'obscure' - only the bike to have in the early 80's due to a certain Roger DeVlaminck! Unfortunately, the market for prestige aluminium frames has collapsed under the onslaught of cheap Taiwanese imports - regardless of the name on the downtube. FWIW, 25% was the value that was wiped-off when you walked out the shop - for used frames, 50% is more realistic.frames. Ironically, if it was an older steel model, it would probably be worth more.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

Hey Monty... I was born in 1982 :) I reckon no more than 2 or 3 of my club mates will have heard of Gios. There are so many small Italian brands, it's hard to search the bay for all of them. Most people have only heard of Pinarello and Colnago.

    Yes.

And if it's in merely in 'good' conditon, not 'excellent', you might actually be looking at as low as 40% of the original retail price.

25% of original purchase price? or
    25% off original purchase price?

Looks like some posters are reading this differently...
  • Just to clarify, I was thinking of 25% of what I paid for it.

    That sounds about right.
    25-40% of the original RRP.
    I.e. a new frame worth $1000 originally might be worth 250-400 second-hand.

But it still depends on the age, condition, item location and the market's desire for the product - it could be higher or lower.
  • Thanks for that I'll give it a clean and polish and see what happens.
